I for Individuality #AtoZChallenge

"You want some help?"
"NO" I cried, a little harsher than was intended. She nodded and left me alone with my words.

The hardcover of my diary had begun to peel off from overuse. Passages edited and re-edited were strewn across the pages, sometimes with blue ink, sometimes with black. I clicked the pen against the edge of the page, deep in reverie.

I was enrolled for an essay writing competition which was due in a couple of days. Having discussed the topic at hand far and wide with my companion, I'd settled down to put them into words. Of course, her own expertise in the English language could have helped me a great deal in the essay. But that wouldn't make it mine now, would it? I didn't want to share the credit of the work that was assigned to me alone. So I set down to word the thoughts. Once I had finished, I didn't even permit suggestions for it, for fear of losing complete ownership to the piece.

Three months later from school, I was summoned to the English department.
